SUSTAIN Cameroon empowers youths as claim holders and engage them as advocates and campaigners against child, early and forced marriages, child trafficking, child sexual abuse, and presses for a shift in community attitudes to acceptance and parental consent for girls marrying earlier than their prescribed age.
Our experience in working with beneficiaries showed us that the traditional awareness raising efforts are no longer of interest to them as more urgent needs like putting food on their tables and paying for their children’s education are their main concern.
Below you can find some of our current outreach projects.

Preventing the sexual exploitation of children
We have identified child safeguarding as a priority focus for our programmes and operations.
We aim to create a world where all children are safe from sexual exploitation and abuse, both offline and online. This includes preventing acts of abuse before they occur, as well as providing comprehensive support and resources for victims who have experienced abuse.

Combating child marriages
SUSTAIN Cameroon aims to empower young people to make informed decisions about their futures and break the cycle of generational poverty and gender inequality that often perpetuates these harmful practices.
The escalating conflict in the North West & South West Cameroon, has heightened social strife and thus exacerbated child sexual exploitation with children on the move exponentially affected.

Economic Empowerment
SUSTAIN Cameroon with the support of its partners and donors helps child brides, at-risk girls and poor families to become self-sufficient.
SUSTAIN Cameroon invests in hope by funding small business ventures that enable poor and marginalized families, young women, and those at-risk girls to become financially independent.

Health and Wellness
SUSTAIN Cameroon organized and carried out education and awareness session on menstrual and reproductive health rights.
Access to essential health kits and supplies has been cut off or restricted and many women and girls in certain rural and suburban communities cannot regularly afford these needs.
We helped 25 girls in Mbengwi where we reached out with information and 25 packs of 8 months worth of hygiene products.

Education and technical & vocational training
Increasing access to continued education for at-risk girls, child brides, and for children from poor households and communities is a key intervention strategy for our organization to prevent and respond to child marriages and sexual exploitation.
Improving access to education including technical and vocational education and training is one of the strategies we invest in to ensure that orphans, vulnerable children and poor families can bail themselves out of abuses and exploitation.

Gender equality and issues affecting women and girls
We promote equal opportunities for all children to ensure gender equality and empower young girls. Our gender equality activities are inextricably linked to our preventing and tackling child early and forced marriages and sexual exploitation of children. The bedrock of our society is entrenched patriarchal leanings where women and girls witness unequal power relations and unequal access to opportunities for growth.
